United Healthcare Isn’t Reinventing Anything for 2027. Here’s What’s New Anyway.
Consistency has a payoff, and here’s what it’s bringing to your clients this year.
United Healthcare doesn’t do dramatic overhauls. Claudia Amaya, Regional Vice President for the Central Region, told Mike Papuc, The Brokerage Inc.’s National Health Sales Director: “There hasn’t been anything drastic, not even within our plan designs, not with our networks. It’s just very consistent, and that’s really what we’ve always committed to.” That’s by design, and heading into 2027, that same steady approach is bringing real additions worth putting in front of your clients now.
A True Zero-Deductible Plan
The Copay Focus plans have always been popular for their zero medical deductible, even on Bronze and Gold tiers. For 2027, United Healthcare is removing the prescription deductible too, making it a true zero-deductible plan. For your clients who want to know exactly what they’ll pay at the doctor or the pharmacy without guessing, that’s a straightforward answer.
A New Off-Exchange Network Built for ICHRA
United Healthcare is launching Complete Choice, a network that mirrors their commercial off-exchange offering, statewide in Texas for 2027. It’s designed for your clients exploring ICHRA, or anyone off-exchange who wants a broader network than what’s typically available on ACA plans. If you have clients who’ve been priced out of a national-level network, or who don’t qualify for a subsidy anyway, this gives you something real to offer them.
Network Additions, Not Replacements
Christus is staying in-network
Texas Tech is being added, covering the Amarillo, Lubbock, Midland, and Odessa areas
Sonia Porras an Agency Manager at United Healthcare was clear this is in addition to existing coverage, not a replacement for current anchor partners, so your clients in those regions gain options rather than losing anything.
A Bigger Member Reward, With New Ways to Earn It
The member incentive is increasing from $250 to $275 per adult on the plan for 2027
A new $15 reward for getting a flu shot
A new $10 reward for watching an educational video about their plan
Every adult on a plan can earn it, so your clients’ family could see that add up fast.
Dental That Finally Rolls Over
The Plus plans’ adult dental benefit, $1,000 per year, has always been use-it-or-lose-it. Starting in 2027, any unused portion rolls over to the next year, with a cap on the table that United Healthcare was still finalizing details on as of this conversation. Either way, it’s a real shift for your clients who’ve historically left part of that benefit unused.
What This Means for Your Clients
These are confirmed additions to plans that are stable and already proven. A zero-deductible plan, a stronger off-exchange network, a bigger reward, and dental that doesn’t reset every January, each one is a real answer the next time your client asks what’s new, or what they’re getting for what they pay. If any of these fit a client you’re already talking to this open enrollment, that’s a conversation worth having now rather than waiting.
With all these additions coming from United Healthcare, The Brokerage Inc. is here to help you make sense of them and put them to work for your clients.
