Memorial Hermann Exits Medicare Advantage Dec. 31

What changes for members of each Memorial Hermann plan, the dates that matter, and how you can help clients choose 2027 coverage

Memorial Hermann began mailing member letters on October 1, so your Memorial Hermann Medicare Advantage clients already know their plan is ending. What they don't know yet is what to pick next, and that's where you come in.

Memorial Hermann has made the decision to wind down and close the Memorial Hermann Medicare Advantage Plan, which won't be offered in 2027. Current coverage stays in effect through December 31, 2026, and members can keep using their benefits and receiving covered care through that date.

How You Can Help

Memorial Hermann notes that if a member enrolled with a broker's help, and that broker is contracted to sell Medicare Advantage products from other carriers, the broker may be able to help the member apply for a plan that meets their needs. Memorial Hermann Health Plan itself can't recommend, endorse, or steer members toward a specific Medicare Advantage, Part D, or Medigap plan.

• Enroll during AEP for a January 1 start. Enrollment requests a new plan receives on or before December 31, 2026 generally take effect January 1, 2027, with no gap in coverage.

• After December 31, there's still time, but with a gap. Affected members have a special opportunity to join a Medicare health or drug plan through February 28, 2027. Requests received January 1 through February 28 generally take effect on the first day of the following month.

• Members who don't enroll in another Medicare Advantage plan will generally return to Original Medicare on January 1, 2027, so make sure their prescription drug coverage is covered too.
