UPDATE: UnitedHealthOne Clarifies TriTerm & Short Term Transition Process
UnitedHealthOne has provided an updated refresher on the process for transitioning members between TriTerm Medical and Short Term Medical plans.
Understanding these requirements can help agents submit applications correctly, avoid unnecessary declines, and support a smoother transition for clients.
Members Cannot Have Both Policies at the Same Time
A member cannot have an active Short Term Medical policy and TriTerm Medical policy simultaneously.
When a member applies to transition between the two types of coverage, the existing policy will be handled based on the outcome and effective date of the new application.
Moving From TriTerm Medical to Short Term Medical
If a member currently has a TriTerm Medical policy and applies for Short Term Medical:
If the applicant answers “No” to S1 and/or S1a, indicating they do not want to replace their existing Golden Rule Insurance coverage, the new Short Term Medical application will be declined.
If the applicant answers “Yes” to both S1 and S1a, indicating they want to replace their existing coverage, and the Short Term Medical application is approved, the existing TriTerm Medical policy will be canceled effective the requested date of the new coverage.
Moving From Short Term Medical to TriTerm Medical
If a member currently has a Short Term Medical policy and applies for TriTerm Medical:
If the TriTerm application is approved, the existing Short Term Medical policy will be canceled effective the TriTerm coverage effective date.
Important Submission Guidance
To help support a seamless transition and reduce unnecessary refund activity:
Current Short Term policy on Facets: Submit the new application with a first-of-the-month effective date whenever possible.
Current Short Term policy on the Mainframe: Submit the application using the paid-to date as the effective date.
What Agents Should Do
Before submitting an application to transition a client between TriTerm and Short Term Medical, review the existing coverage, answer the replacement questions accurately, and use the appropriate effective date based on the current policy system.
Following these guidelines can help minimize processing issues and ensure the client's existing coverage is canceled appropriately when the new coverage takes effect.
