Athene Offers Additional Commission Opportunity on Qualifying FIA Sales

As agencies and financial professionals look for ways to close out 2026 with strong production, Athene is offering an additional commission opportunity on qualifying fixed indexed annuity (FIA) sales through the independent marketing organization (IMO) channel. This program may be worth keeping in mind for producers who are actively working with clients seeking retirement income and protection strategies.

Through December 31, 2026, eligible producers can earn an additional 50 basis points (bp) of commission on qualifying Athene FIA sales. There is no stated limit on the amount that can be earned, making this an opportunity that could become especially meaningful for agencies with multiple FIA cases in the pipeline.

What Agencies Should Know

To qualify for the additional commission, applications must be signed on or before December 31, 2026, and received by Athene in good order no later than 3 p.m. CT on January 15, 2027. Contracts must be issued between September 1, 2026, and February 16, 2027. Athene also specifies that qualifying pending FIA business as of December 31, 2026, that is issued on or before February 16, 2027, will qualify for the additional commission.

For agencies managing year-end business, these dates are important. Producers should identify qualifying cases early, make sure applications are submitted in good order, and allow enough time for processing before the applicable deadlines.

The program also includes a scheduled payment structure based on when the qualifying contract is issued. For example, contracts issued in September 2026 are scheduled for additional commission payment no later than October 30, while December 2026 contracts are scheduled for payment no later than January 29, 2027. All qualifying additional commission payments are scheduled to be paid no later than March 31, 2027.

Why FIAs Continue to Be Relevant

The additional commission opportunity comes at a time when retirement income planning remains an important part of the financial conversation. Athene highlights FIAs for their combination of guaranteed lifetime income, protection from market losses, and index crediting strategies designed to provide growth potential.

Athene's broader FIA lineup also includes solutions focused on accumulation, income, liquidity and other retirement planning objectives. (Athene) For agencies, this creates an opportunity to revisit existing client relationships and identify situations where an FIA may fit within a properly constructed retirement strategy.

A Reminder for Producers

Producers must have an active Athene contract and remain in good standing to receive the additional commission. Business sold through a broker-dealer or bank does not qualify for this particular program. Athene also notes that chargebacks may apply in the event of free looks or other chargeback situations during or after the program.

For agencies looking to finish 2026 strong, this is a timely opportunity to review your FIA pipeline, identify qualifying cases, and make sure your applications are submitted within the required timeframe.
